Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.
A high-ranking official commented the attack made him speechless and required to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
